Diet Culture Backfires

Event Details

Tired of counting calories? Join Sip Smarter Vancouver for an evening talk over drinks at Bimini’s in Kitsilano, where a UBC behavioural scientist reveals why culinary pleasure can be healthier than willpower.

We eat every single day, but we rarely ask what actually drives our cravings. Modern food is built for convenience, abundance and constant stimulation. Yet the more accessible food becomes, the harder it is to truly enjoy it, leaving us both less healthy and less satisfied.

Dr. Yann Cornil explores how brain chemistry, physiological cues and food culture shape what and how much we eat. He asks a provocative question: can pure pleasure become your biggest ally in eating healthier?

Every Sip Smarter talk includes a 45-minute lecture followed by an open Q&A over drinks.

About the speaker: Dr. Yann Cornil is an Associate Professor and Division Chair of Marketing and Behavioural Science at UBC Sauder School of Business, where he holds the Alumni Professorship in Marketing. His research covers consumer psychology, sensory perception and the science of food consumption.

“The only thing better than learning is the conversation after.”
